Reporting and FAQ's

Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 protects people from sex discrimination in educational programs and activities at the institutions that receive federal financial assistance.

Sex Discrimination is discrimination on the basis of sex or gender. It includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, domestic and dating violence, and any other gender-based discrimination.

A Report occurs when an individual notifies the Office of Equity and Compliance of alleged Sexual Harassment or Misconduct.

Any member of the community filing a report, may use our reporting form. Or the complaint can be filed by sending the necessary information (listed below) via email to stellato_sl@mercer.edu or titleix@mercer.edu.

A report should include the following details, when possible:

• Name, email, phone number, and division/department of person filing the complaint (or student status)
• Name, email, phone number, and division/department or status of the person against whom the complaint is being filed (if applicable)
• Date incident occurred
• Location of incident
• Description of incident

After the Office of Equity and Compliance receives a report of alleged Sex Discrimination or Sexual Misconduct, the Complainant, or Impacted Party, will be contacted to attend a meeting with someone from the office. During this meeting, the impacted party will have the opportunity to hear about their rights and options available through Mercer’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. Impacted Parties are not required to take action.

Reports made to the Office of Equity and Compliance will remain confidential. Continued confidentiality will be determined based on if and when an Impacted Party chooses how to proceed with their rights and options.
