What is Title IX?

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. –-Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Sexual misconduct can occur in many forms, including, but not limited to, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, stalking, and gender-based harassment.

Mercer University is committed to providing a safe workplace and educational environment that supports academic and professional growth of students, staff, and faculty and does not tolerate sexual misconduct.

The University’s Title IX Coordinator oversees implementation of Mercer University’s Sexual Misconduct policy and coordinating the University’s compliance with Title IX and other federal and state laws and regulations relating to sex-based discrimination. The Title IX Coordinator has the primary responsibility for coordinating Mercer University’s efforts related to the intake, investigation, resolution, and implementation of supportive measures to stop, remediate, and prevent sexual misconduct, and retaliation prohibited under this policy.
